Spanish Military Jets 1954-2022: Towards the 21st Century
Spanish Military Jets 1954–2022: Towards the 21st Century
After its acquisition of its first jet aircraft in 1954, Spain continued to update and upgrade its aircraft for the Ejército del Aire (EdA, Spanish Air Force) and the Armada (Navy), which remain the linchpins of Spanish air power. Spain invested in several new jet aircraft, including the CASA C-101, McDonnell Douglas RF-4C, EF-18A and EAV-8B Harrier II and the Eurofighter EF2000 Typhoon. Today, these aircraft continue to defend the Spanish skies and take part in many international missions for NATO.
This book reviews those fighters along with the EdA’s aerobatic team, Patrulla Águila, and its predecessor, Patrulla Ascua. Many of the special liveries used in recent years to commemorate anniversaries or during international meetings are also included.
With more than 140 images, this volume showcases the jets that have brought Spain’s military into the 21st century.
