Key Publishing has commissioned Cavalex Models to produce a new limited edition of DC Rail’s Class 56 56103 in its unique version of the company’s livery with Devon & Cornwall Railway roundels.
Secure your PRE-ORDER with a £30 deposit (non-refundable). When the model is available the Customer Services team will contact you for the remaining balance of £159.95 - full price including deposit £189.95.
Expected Quarter One 2026
The model will replicate 56103 in its current condition with the addition of a square high-intensity headlight added during its overhaul in 2024.
The real Class 56 started life at BREL Doncaster where it was completed in 1981. During its career it carried BR large logo blue, triple grey with Coal Sector markings, Transrail branded triple grey and later EWS maroon and gold before being sent to work on the LGV Est in France in 2004. It returned to the UK in the early 2010s and after a period working on preserved railways, it made its return to the main line on June 19 2018 for DCRail.
It has since been part of the DCRail fleet which has seen it work across the country on a mixture of stock movements, scrap trains and – more recently – aggregate trains including workings to and from Middleton Towers in East Anglia, Tunstead in the North West and on HS2 workings taking empty sets of JNA-T wagons back to Willesden Sidings.
The new ‘OO’ gauge limited edition will model 56103 in its current condition and will be available exclusively through Key Publishing. In total 300 models will be made – 150 DCC Ready, 150 DCC sound fitted.
The specification includes a powerful five-pole motor, twin flywheels, four-axle drive with the floating centre axle for improved track holding, modified bogie pin position, a 21-pin decoder socket multi-function lighting and a fully detailed body with the correct components to model 56103. A DCC sound fitted version is also available.
Prices are set at £189.95 DCC Ready. They are available to pre-order now with a £30 non-refundable deposit with delivery expected in the quarter one 2026.

I’d say Airfix Model World is the best on the market. Well laid out, well written and plenty of diversity. Definitely the magazine the others strive to beat
Tim H
Most technically accurate railway magazine
Modern Railways is the most technically accurate railway magazine in the business and with writers of the calibre of Ford, Walmsley and Willias, what is not to like?
Graham H

Subscribing since the 80's!
I started buying Aeroplane Monthly in ‘76 or ‘77. By the early 80’s I bought a subscription and I still have it. I love the magazine.
