F-4 Phantom

F-4 Phantom

At one time the F-4 Phantom was operated by a dozen countries, three air forces still fly the jet.

Production ran from the early 1960s until 1981 when the 5,195th example of the type was delivered to the Republic of Korea Air Force.

The largest operator was the US Air Force which operated more than 2,800 examples in five different variants.

The aircraft was tasked with both air-to-air and air-to-ground roles.

In RAF service, Phantoms provided air defence of UK and NATO air space, regularly intercepting Soviet bombers north of Scotland.

The aircraft proved popular with pilots, weapon system operators, maintainers, and enthusiasts alike.

This special publication provides personal accounts by people who flew and maintained this iconic fighter.
