For the first time in British history, the population could witness the conflict as it was fought out in the skies over South East England. White streaks of vapour high in the sky marked the paths of the RAF and Luftwaffe fighters, while the straight trails indicated masses of enemy bombers heading for the British ports and cities. This documentary details this momentous time, when the Luftwaffe struck Britain with their formidable might. They killed more than 40,000 British civilians and seriously wounded 50,000 more; and yet despite the overwhelming odds, not one Nazi soldier, set foot as an invader upon the soil of mainland Britain.
