Trains to Tenterden DVD The Kent and East Sussex Railway was built in the 19th Century by Colonel Stephens, whose cost consciousness was the stuff of legend. The line wound its picturesque way through the garden of England peacefully until 1961 when it was closed down by British Rail, ironically, in a cost-cutting exercise. The working life of the railway, beginning in the 1930's and is beautifully chronicled in this DVD. Highlights, which include rare colour footage shot in 1950, also tell of the troubled, but ultimately triumphant, efforts of a dedicated band of preservationists to restore the railway to it's former glory and once more send Trains to Tenterden. Classic archive footage of steam and diesel trains With the opening of the new St Pancras and the high speed rail link, there are many more people interested in rail travel as we enter the new age of the train.
