A true success story from British Rail, the class 43 HST is a must-have set and an ideal starting point to modern image modelling in TT:120 scale. Accurately replicating the icon British Rail, the InterCity HST is perfect for any TT:120 layout from the 1980s onwards.

Famously titled the InterCity125, the class 43 HST were officially the fastest diesel trains in the world, first introduced to offer 125mph services on the Western and East Coast main lines. With a two class 43 power cars and between 6 to 9 Mk3 carriages forming each HST rake, they were the trains that saved British Rail, reaching all corners of the UK and continue to offer mainline services to this day.
Reproduced by Hornby for TT:120 scale is a Class 43 power car pair carrying the early Virgin Trains livery as applied at the beginning of privatisation. The power cars chosen are 43093 Lady in Red and 43097. One power car features a heavy die cast chassis and 5-pole motor that is easily capable of hauling a prototypical HST set, all being required are matching Hornby Mk3 HST carriages to suit.
Internally, both power cars feature accurate lighting and Next18 DCC decoder sockets, making it a simple upgrade to digital control with Hornby Triplex Sound Bluetooth decoders or other brands of decoders. Hornby’s TT:120 class 43 is a highly detailed model of an iconic train and is ideal alongside other late 1990s and early 2000s (eras 9) rolling stock.
