The Gresley ‘A1’ 4-6-2s were introduced in 1922 and became the flagship locomotives of the London North Eastern Railway on its formation at the 1923 Grouping. Widely recognised as the most famous steam locomotive constructed, the new addition for TT:120 scale from Hornby replicates 4472 ‘Flying Scotsman’ in original ‘A1’ condition with GNR tender and tall cab, carrying the elaborate early LNER lined apple green livery.
The locomotive is finely detailed, with accurate details for an LNER ‘A1’ and high-quality printed details for the intricate livery. Internally, the model is pre fitted with Hornby’s advanced Triplex Sound (TXS) DCC sound decoder via a Next18 decoder socket in the tender together with a 15mm x 11mm cube speaker, offering realistic sound with a intuitive, wireless Bluetooth control. Suitable for the early 1920s (era 3), this rendition of 4472 is the ideal addition to Hornby’s Scotsman trainset, and perfect for use with Hornby’s super detailed Pullmans and forthcoming Gresley Teak range of carriages.
