The class 66 is a highly successful and reliable freight design produced by EMD, with 480 examples constructed specifically for the Britain’s railways between 1998 and 2016 and further examples later imported from Europe. Class 66s are truly ubiquitous and can be found on all types of freight across the UK, with the fleet operated by five main companies and carrying a huge range of liveries to this day.
Recreated by Hornby is the final member of the class 66 fleet, unveiled in 2016 as 66779 ‘Evening Star’ in the unique GBRf lined BR green livery. With multiple sub-class design differences and etched metal parts, Hornby has accurately produced this model as a class 66/7 with LED headlights and detail variations.
Internally the locomotive features a Next18 DCC decoder socket, making it a simple upgrade to digital control with Hornby Triplex Sound Bluetooth decoders or other brands of decoders. Hornby’s TT:120 class 66 is highly detailed and is the perfect companion to the modern image freight rolling stock, GBRf diesels and HSTs currently in development by Hornby.
