Famously titled the InterCity125, the class 43 HST were officially the fastest diesel trains in the world, first introduced to offer 125mph services on the Western and East Coast main lines. With a two class 43 power cars and between 6 to 9 Mk3 carriages forming each HST rake, they were the trains that saved British Rail, reaching all corners of the UK and continue to offer mainline services to this day.

Reproduced by Hornby for TT:120 scale is a class 43 pair allocated to the East Coast Mainline, carrying the iconic blue, grey and yellow livery first carried by the HSTs from 1974 onwards. One power car features a heavy die cast chassis and 5-pole motor that is easily capable of hauling a prototypical HST set, all being required are matching Hornby Mk3 HST carriages to suit.

Internally, both power cars feature accurate lighting and Next18 DCC decoder sockets, making it a simple upgrade to digital control with Hornby Triplex Sound Bluetooth decoders or other brands of decoders.
