Replicating one of the most recognisable steam locomotive classes built, Hornby’s Gresley ‘A4’ 4-6-2 is now available in eye-catching BR blue guise complete with Triplex Bluetooth DCC sound. The Gresley ‘A4’ 4-6-2s were introduced in 1935 with striking art-deco streamlining and the locomotives became synonymous as the premier motive power of the London North Eastern Railway. A class renowned for speed, the latest Hornby TT:120 scale ‘A4’ addition replicates 60025 Flacon in early British Railways Express Passenger lined blue, recalling the colourful early years steam on the 1950s East Coast Mainline (ECML).
The locomotive perfectly captures the distinctive streamline shroud and BR specific details, including removed valances, corridor tender and single chimney. Internally, the model features a pre-fitted Triplex Sound (TXS) Bluetooth DCC sound decoder with 15mm x 11mm cube speaker, raising the realism of Hornby’s TT:120 ‘A4’ even higher. Suitable for the early 1950s (era 4) this release of 60025 would sit equally well alongside late LNER and early BR rolling stock, especially Hornby’s range of early emblem BR ‘A3’ and ‘A4’ locomotives. Suitable rolling stock is also available with Hornby’s super detailed Pullmans, BR Mk1s in crimson cream and forthcoming Gresley Teak range of carriages.
