BR A3 4-6-2 60078 Night Hawk - Era 4

A popular addition to the British Railways modelling period, Hornby’s new model of 60078 Night Hawk is a perfect addition to the developing world of TT:120 scale. An eye-catching model of Gresley’s famous pacific, Hornby’s Gresley ‘A3’ 4-6-2 combines a highly popular design with fine detail. Buy now from the Key Model World Shop for £154.99 (RRP £167.99).

The ‘A3’ class 4-6-2s were originally Gresley’s famed ‘A1’ introduced in 1922 but were gradually converted with during the 1930s and 1940s to improve steaming and efficiency. Alongside famed class member Flying Scotsman, the A3s were a staple of the East Coast Mainline into the early 1960s and the new addition for TT:120 scale from Hornby replicates 60078 Night Hawk in British Railways lined green with early emblem, single chimney and GNR tender.

The locomotive is finely detailed, with accurate details for an early BR ‘A3’ and high-quality printed detail, including BR emblem used until the late-1950s. Internally, the model features a Next18 decoder socket in the tender together with a 15mm x 11mm cube speaker making it a simple locomotive to upgrade to digital sound with Hornby Triplex Sound Bluetooth decoders or other brands. Suitable for the early 1950s (era 4), this model of 60078 is the perfect companion to Hornby’s comprehensive range of British Railways liveried ‘A3’ and ‘A4’ locomotives, and ideal for use with Hornby’s super detailed Pullmans, forthcoming Gresley Teak carriages and ubiquitous BR Mk1 carriages in both BR crimson cream and maroon.

  • Gresley ‘A3’ 4-6-2 60078 Night Hawk in BR lined green with early emblems

I started buying Aeroplane Monthly in ‘76 or‘77. By the early 80’s I bought a subscription and I still have it. I love themagazine.
Pretty much the only game in town for the stuff I'm looking for.
