Hornby TT:120 LNER A4 4-6-2 4498 Sir Nigel Gresley

Hornby TT:120 LNER A4 4-6-2 4498 Sir Nigel Gresley

Hornby’s model of the striking ‘A4’ Pacific provides a stand-out model to start or expand a journey into TT:120 scale. Replicating one of the most recognisable steam locomotive classes built, Hornby’s Gresley ‘A4’ 4-6-2 combines a highly popular design with fine detail.

The Gresley ‘A4’ 4-6-2s were introduced in 1935 with striking art-deco streamlining and the locomotives became synonymous as the premier motive power of the London North Eastern Railway. A class renowned for speed, the new addition for TT:120 scale from Hornby replicates 4498 Sir Nigel Gresley in original 1938 LNER garter blue with valances.

The locomotive perfectly captures the distinctive streamlining, complete with full valances and eye-catching blue.

Internally, the model features a Next18 decoder socket in the tender together with a 15mm x 11mm cube speaker making it a simple locomotive to upgrade to digital sound with Hornby Triplex Sound Bluetooth decoders or other brands.

Suitable for the late 1930s (era 3) this rendition of 4498 is ideal for use alongside Hornby’s Scotsman trainset, and perfect for use with Hornby’s super detailed Pullmans.

Product highlights include:

  • Gresley ‘A4’ 4-6-2 4498 Mallard in LNER garter blue
  • DCC ready with a Next18 decoder socket
  • Factory fitted 15mm x 11mm cube speaker for simple sound upgrades
  • NEM standard couplings
  • Famous addition to any layout set from the early 1920s (era 3) and ideal expansion to The Scotsman trainset (TT1001M/TT1001TXSM)

I started buying Aeroplane Monthly in ‘76 or‘77. By the early 80’s I bought a subscription and I still have it. I love themagazine.
Pretty much the only game in town for the stuff I'm looking for.
