History:

The BR InterCity 125 Class 43 is possibly one of the most famous locomotives in railway history and hardly enough can be said here to emphasise their importance. Revolutionising long distance travel across the country during the 1970s, these icons continue to serve commuters 50 years later and have been a feature of Hornby's product range for many years too. 

BR InterCity Class 43 power car 43189, originally part of set 253054, was named Railway Heritage Trust in 1995. It soon became part of the newly-formed Great Western Railway (GWR) established in February 1996, which in turn became First Great Western in December 1998. It is in this condition that the power car is presented. 

It was renamed Launceston Castle during 2020 and remained part of the operational ‘Castle’ fleet until the end of 2025. It is paired with Class 43 power car 43136, which has always been unnamed, and since finishing service with FGW in 2024 was transferred for further use in Scotland.
