AERO 100 1919 - 2019 - In The Sky For A Century
In 2019, Aero Vodochody, most commonly known simply as Aero, celebrated its centenary year. The 100-year legacy of this Czechoslovakian company is marked by determination, courage and a drive to push the boundaries of both man and machine.
On 25 February 1919, Aero was officially registered in Prague, beginning with a modest site and just three members of staff. Within five months, this work force had risen to 36, and by August of the same year, the Czechoslovakian Air Force made its first request to the company for a new training aircraft, culminating in the Aero A-1. Momentum continued, and in the 1950s Aero developed the L-29 Delfin trainer aircraft; Czechoslovakia's first indigenously designed jet-powered aircraft.
As the 20th century came to a close, the fall of the Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc were substantial blows to Aero’s longest-term business relations. Undeterred, however, this once-small company again showed its hunger for success as it built new global partnerships with leading aerospace companies, and, to this day, it continues to pioneer new jet aircraft with a world-wide appeal.
Published in a hardback, landscape format, and packed with stunning photographs in both colour and black and white, this title serves as the definitive history of Aero’s century in the sky.
