Key Publishing has commissioned an exclusive limited edition model of DC Rail Class 60 60029 Ben Nevis in DCR grey for ‘OO’ gauge from Cavalex Models.

60029 is available to PRE-ORDER today with a non-refundable £10 deposit - full price £294.95 DCC sound fitted. When the model is available the Customer Services team will contact you for the remaining balance of £284.95.

For the first time DC Rail grey is being offered on a ready-to-run model of a Class 60 with an exclusive limited edition commissioned by Key Publishing from Cavalex Models.

The new limited edition will offer 60029 Ben Nevis in DC Rail grey for ‘OO’ gauge with a choice of DCC ready and DCC sound fitted locomotives. Release is expected in the fourth quarter of 2024.

60029 is one of four Class 60s operated by DC Rail on aggregate trains formed of JNA-T bogie box wagons with the other three being 60028, 60046 William Wilberforce and 60055 Thomas Barnardo. The locomotives work across the railway network with aggregate flows taking them to Peak Forest in Derbyshire, Merehead in Somerset, Middleton Towers in Norfolk and the Isle of Grain in Kent amongst other locations.

The new limited edition for Key Publishing uses the all-new tooling for the Class 60 which is currently being developed by Cavalex Models. The first shots from the tools are expected from the factory in January 2024 with 60029 having amendments to cover the modern multi-function head and tail lights as well as cab interior detail upgrades such as the driver fan and data recording box.

Standard features including a five-pole motor, twin flywheels, fine slow speed control, floating centre axles on each bogie for improved track holding, switchable lights, a highly detailed body with etched metal grilles, multi-part bogies and a host of additional separately fitted parts.

The prices are set at £294.95 for the DCC sound fitted versions equipped with an ESU LokSound decoder loaded with a custom sound profile created by ESU for the Cavalex Class 60 (£194.95 for DCC ready models). Just 300 are being made – 150 DCC ready, 150 DCC sound fitted – with delivery expected in the fourth quarter of 2024. Pre-orders are open with a £10 non-refundable deposit.
