Hornby’s model of the striking ‘A4’ Pacific provides a stand-out model to start or expand a journey into TT:120 scale. Replicating one of the most recognisable steam locomotive classes built, Hornby’s Gresley ‘A4’ 4-6-2 combines a highly popular design with fine detail. Buy now from the Key Model World Shop for £149.99 (RRP£163.99).

The Gresley ‘A4’ 4-6-2s were introduced in 1935 with striking art-deco streamlining and the locomotives became synonymous as the premier motive power of the London North Eastern Railway. A class renowned for speed, the new addition for TT:120 scale from Hornby replicates world steam speed record holder 4468 Mallard in original 1938 LNER garter blue, as also preserved today at the NRM in York.

The locomotive perfectly captures the distinctive streamlining, complete with full valances and eye-catching blue. Internally, the model features a Next18 decoder socket in the tender together with a 15mm x 11mm cube speaker making it a simple locomotive to upgrade to digital sound with Hornby Triplex Sound Bluetooth decoders or other brands. Suitable for the late 1930s (era 3) this rendition of 4468 is ideal for use alongside Hornby’s Scotsman trainset, and perfect for use with Hornby’s super detailed Pullmans and forthcoming Gresley Teak range of carriages.
