Forming the backbone of goods transportation in Britain through to the 1960s, ventilated vans are a central addition to Hornby’s growing range of TT:120 scale wagons. A critical component for a model railway of any size, this BR-era goods van is available to buy now from the Key Model World Shop for £22.99 (RRP £24.49)

A ubiquitous element of Britain’s railways throughout the 1950s and 1960s, wooden-bodied ventilated vans were designed to transport almost any type of perishable or palletised goods. Built by the thousand by the ‘Big Four’ railway companies and British Railways, they could be seen in any length of freight train across the rail network and even added to passenger services.

The 12-ton ventilated goods van built by the LNER is the latest addition to Hornby’s TT:120 freight stock range and is suitable far beyond the eastern region of BR. Decorated as E145841 in standard BR bauxite, indicating a wagon fitted with vacuum braking, the vent van is suited to any BR layout of the 1950s (era 4), featuring refined moulded wooden plank relief, sharp white printed lettering and a detailed underframe.

A vital addition to any BR-era model railway, ventilated vans should not be overlooked for layouts from the largest to smallest shunting puzzles. Further expanding the range of BR period wagons offered by Hornby in TT:120, the BR 12-ton van is ideal for use with Hornby’s era 4 rolling stock of any region.

Product highlights include:

  • LNER 12-ton vent van E145841 in BR bauxite
  • NEM standard removable couplings
  • Turned metal wheels
  • High detail moulded underframe
  • Core component to British Railways era layout with universal operation
