The Class 37s have become very popular with a whole generation of enthusiasts over their six decades in service. This is largely due to the great variety of places they can still be seen. Among other notable features of the Class are the wide range of names and liveries they have carried, not to mention the impressive sound they produce when working at full power.

As with most UK diesel locos, they have picked up nicknames from enthusiasts over the years being variously dubbed Syphons, Growlers and Tractors. The fact that the pioneer loco, D6700, was claimed by the National Railway Museum underlines the importance attached to this Class and the role it has played in British railway history. This second collection of 220 images depicts just a few of the great variety of trains, past and present, with which the Class has been associated.

With some locos now having found permanent homes on heritage railways throughout the UK, and others still working on the main line, it is hoped that enthusiasts will be able to enjoy them for years to come.
