The specially commissioned artwork, On A Wing And A Prayer by Antonis Karidis, commemorates Fg Off Cyril Barton fighting for control of his Halifax III LK797/LK-E Excalibur after a head on attack by a Luftwaffe Junkers Ju 88 night-fighter. The bomber was taking part in the disastrous raid on the German city of Nuremburg during the night of March 30-31, 1944. Just 22 years old, Barton's bravery saved the lives of three of his crew. For this, he was awarded the Victoria Cross.
