They were allocated across the LNER and BR Eastern Region from Scotland to London for use in shunting and light goods work.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eConstruction started in 1922 and by 1926 the 'J50' was a group standard type with further batches being built. They continued in service through the grouping era (1923-1947) and as nationalisation in 1948 transferred to British Railways Eastern Region. Withdrawal started in 1958 with the last being retired in 1963, though six continued in departmental service until 1965. None have been preserved.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e600 entered service in 1938 and became 8979 at the 1946 renumbering before becoming 68979 as part of the BR stock roster. It was withdrawn in 1961.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHornby's LNER 'J50' 0-6-0T for 'TT:120' scale is a highly detailed replica of these compact and powerful locomotives.
