The Royal Air Force s world-famous Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, celebrates its 50th display season in 2014 and Key Publishing brings you the official history in a 100-page special magazine.

Go behind the scenes to meet the pilots and groundcrew of this historic year and travel back through time to read about the characters and personalities that have made the team what it is today. From its beginning in 1964 as the Yellowjacks, the first years of struggle to get established and the highs and the lows of what has been a roller-coaster ride of emotion on occasion.

From every pilot and every aeroplane the team has used to the bases it has flown from, this publication is a must for all fans of airshows worldwide.

Features include:

From black to yellow

It is a colourful tale with colourful characters. Many teams came and went before the Red Arrows were established as the RAF’s official display team

From Gnat to Hawk

Former Red Arrows Leader Brian Hoskins describes how the team moved from the diminutive Gnat to the world-beating Hawk during the winter of 1979/80

Red at the Top
Air-Vice Marshal Gary Waterfall, Air Officer Commanding 1 Group from July 2014, is a former Red Arrow. He recalls his military career to date

The Circus, the smoke and the spares

A Red Arrows display is the culmination of dedicated hard work behind the scenes. Without the efforts of the engineers, known as the Blues, the pilots would remain firmly on the ground

The 2014 Team

Since 1965 the Red Arrows has been thrilling the crowds with its seven or nine-ship displays. In that time 150 pilots – 149 men and one woman – have flown with the team. Here we introduce the team for the 2014 Airshow season.
