D-Day The Air War - 60th Anniversary - SOLD OUTD-Day The Air War - 60th Anniversary - SOLD OUT
Sixty years ago on June 6, 1944, the largest-ever amphibious invasion ever mounted took place on the beaches of Normandy as the allied armies invaded Hitler's Fortress Europe. Over 13,000 aircraft and 3,500 gliders took part while over 5,000 ships delivered 156,000 troops and their equipment on to French soil on that fateful day.

The successful invasion of occupied Europe ultimately paved the way for the defeat of the tyrannical Third Reich and the liberation of millions of European citizens.

This FlyPast special publication examines some of the key elements of the aerial aspects of D-Day, the aircraft involved and in particular the units that took part and the airfields and advanced landing grounds used during the period. Included among the many features is a complete breakdown of the Allied order of battle as it was on June 6. Also featured are some of the less well-known aspects of the air war and some of the more unusual units, including a US Navy Spitfire squadron and the work of the Armstrong Whitworth Albemarle. The story behind the D-Day invasion stripes is told, as are details of some of the deception tactics employed - Operation Glimmer. There is also the opportunity to win some exclusive D-Day memorabilia including an exclusive painting by Robin Smith.
